Deputy Gerald Voisin told the States Assembly that Jersey’s current minimum wage of £13.59 is too high for certain sectors of the island’s economy.
Voisin emphasized that his department has not been instructed to examine reducing or abolishing the minimum wage, despite his personal concerns about its impact.
The final decision on the 2027 minimum wage will be guided by the Employment Forum’s recommendations, following its consultation period, which concluded on 18 September.
