Russian drone strikes train near Ukraine-Poland border

A Russian drone struck a train near Yahodyn, Ukraine, on September 13, 2026, hitting the train’s engine shortly after a group of high-profile European officials had passed through the area. Ukrainian authorities confirmed that all passengers had been evacuated following the strike, and no casualties were reported.

The attack occurred while a separate diplomatic train carrying former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European national security advisers, including the UK’s Jonathan Powell, traveled along the same route after attending a conference in Kyiv. The officials were on a different train from the one directly struck.

A Kyiv-Warsaw passenger train was also struck by Russian attacks just 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from the Polish border, though no casualties were reported in that incident either. The strikes took place near Yagodyn station, where Johnson and other former leaders, including ex-US CIA director David Petraeus, were present alongside security advisers from several EU member states.
